Jamaican Kimberly Williams, a Florida State sophomore and two-time All American, continued her winning ways yesterday by capturing 1st place in the triple jump final with a leap of 14.38m (47′-02.25″) on the last day of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) track & field Division 1 Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
On Thursday, Williams, formerly of Vere Tech , won the long jump with a personal best of 6.54m. Her leap of 14.38m in the triple jump is her personal best and is the new Florida State record, surpassing Theresa Bundy’s 2002 record of 13.75m (45′-03″). Williams now owns both Florida State Outdoor (14.38m) and Indoor (13.82m) triple jump records.
Williams’s exploits contributed to half of Florida State’s 40 points, good enough for 4 th place finish behind Texas A&M (50 points), University of Oregon (43 points) and Arizona State University (41 points).
Texas A&M’s Julian Reid (Jam) took 2 nd place in the men’s triple jump final with 17.10m (56′:01.25″) behind University of Oklahoma’s Will Claye 17.24m (56′-06.75″). Reid, formerly of Wolmer’s, was 4th in the long jump finals on Thursday with 7.96m.
Mississippi State’ s Dwight Mullings (Jam) ran 45.48 secs. for 5 th place in the 400m finals. His compatriot, Maryland East Shore’s Allodin Fothergill (Jam) placed 6th in 45.81 secs. Florida State’s Freshman Jonathan Borlee won the race in 44.78 secs.
Louisiana State University’ s Samantha Henry, formerly of The Queen’s School (Jam), finished in 6 th place in the 200m finals in 23.07 secs. Texas A&M’s Porscha Lucas took 1st place in 22.81 secs.
Bethune-Cookman’s Joel Redhead (Grenada) was 8 th in the 200m finals in 21.15 secs. Florida State’s Charles Clark took 1st place in 20.55 secs.
