Seville on line for the Diamond League race.

Less than two hours after running a blazing back stretch at the London Diamond League series Saturday (19th) for the Jamaica winning men’s 4x100m relay team that clocked its fastest time since 2023, Oblique Seville returned to blow away a high-quality field in the 100m that included Paris Olympic champion Noah Lyles of the USA, Akani Simbini of South Africa, Seville’s training partner Zharnel Hughes of Britain, and Paris 200m champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana.

Seville, who ran 9.83s for second place at the Jamaica national trials in June, led from the start and kept his distance, saluting the crowd as he crossed the finish line in 9.86secs (-0.6m/s). Lyles, who ran 10.00secs in his first 100m of the season, was second and Hughes third in 10.02secs.

First Diamond League

“I am proud of how I ran amongst a stacked field, and to win,” Seville said, noting that he was pleased with his execution. “I was the only one to run under 10 seconds today. It is something special and phenomenal heading into a major championship later this year.

In making a rare appearance in Europe outside of an international championship, Seville entered the meet with the fastest time of that group this season, 9.83 that he ran at the Jamaican nationals. He was the last man to defeat Lyles; he did so at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica last year.
