Jamaica’s Brianna Lyston took silver behind Britain’s top-tier sprinter Dina Asher-Smith in the 60m at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston today. It was her first race as a professional since she left Louisiana State University in May of 2025 with a season best 7.02secs (2024) to join Pure Athletics in Florida, run by world-renowned coach Lance Brauman. She clocked 7.11 to Asher-Smith’s season best 7.08.

“It was nerve-wracking because I’ve not run since March last year, but I’ve been working a lot off the track on my mental. My [physical] health has been better; a lot of times I would take time off track to just get everything under wraps.

“I’ve been working with coach Brauman, and he doesn’t push you but let you do what you can; that gives me some comfort.”

The 2022 World Under20 200m champion at 22.65 will try to get more races in for 2026 and will talk to her coach about whether should compete at the Commonwealth Games this year. She will be working at getting better and achieving personal bests (PBs). She has PBs of 10.91 for the 100m and 22.31 for the 200m, all achieved in 2024.

While Lyston has removed herself from social media postings and doesn’t watch much of what is going on in that space, she envisions being on Jamaica’s promising sprint relay team, and with they array of promising talents, she feels good to know that she’s a part of that conversation. Results
